This museum is one of the most immersive and moving experiences I’ve had, and I’m not even a museum person! (I being Bridget) It’s not your average museum at all. It feels more like stepping into history. The exhibits are interactive and deeply engaging, from the personal stories of soldiers and civilians to the amazing collection of artifacts, vehicles, and even planes. It’s all laid out in a way that’s both educational and captivating, so you’re not just reading endless plaques—you’re actually living through history.
One of the coolest things is how the museum takes you through different perspectives of WWII. There’s so much depth, whether it’s through the eyes of the soldiers, the families back home, or the people caught in the middle of the war. The sound, the visuals, and even the way the exhibits are designed pull you right into the moment, making you feel like you’re really there.
The exhibits are huge, and they span the entire war, but they’re so well done that you never feel overwhelmed or bored. My favorite part is the D-Day exhibit—it’s incredibly well-done, and you’ll walk away with a much deeper understanding of that pivotal moment. Plus, the museum is always updating and adding new things, so there’s always something fresh to experience.
Even if you’re not a history buff, you’ll appreciate how it humanizes the past, showing how the war impacted lives and shaped the world. It’s definitely worth setting aside a few hours (or more!) to explore. You might not even get through it all the first time and that is ok.
This is the touristy thing to do.
Cafe Du Monde does have great beignets, but all around we think Cafe Beignet is better! This one on bourban has a great little courtyard to sit in and is an 8 min walk from the hotel. There are other locations.
This place has a variety of shows but we love Lola Van Ella! She started in St. Louis and moved to NOLA. Here is the website for her show specifically.
